Amy Adler's large-scale photographs reproduce drawings she has made (and subsequently destroyed), based on earlier photographic sources. What Happened to Amy? is based on a photo-shoot done of Amy Adler herself at thirteen. Each work reflects the influence of the photographer or the invasiveness of being photographed. Instead of isolating a particular iconic image, Adler usually produces multiple works, such as the five elements of What Happened to Amy? This fragmented or multiple subject seems more authentic and more open-ended in its presentation of adolescent identities, the constant theme of her art.
