Jeff Burton's photographs of over-decorated interiors and other banal sites correspond to the classic definition of "stream of consciousness": his eye drifts between visual elements without regard to their logical relationship or narrative continuity. The façade image in Untitled #42 (Chicago Façade), 1996, recalls the work of Edward Hopper and similarly suggests the stark anonymity of the urban environment. Trained as a painter and a self-proclaimed hopeless romantic, Burton finds visual beauty in unexpected places.
