SPECIAL EVENT: White Glove Tour
PETRIFIED SNAKES, TONGUES AND OTHER CURIOSITIES OF THE EARTH: FOSSILS IN THE WUNDERKAMMER
Thursday, November 19, 2009
6:00 pm
Reservations required.
Periodically scheduled throughout the year, the White Glove Tours give museum visitors extraordinary access to different parts of the University Art Museum’s exhibitions and collections. Donning white gloves, visitors are invited to handle objects all the while learning from noted scholars. Given the delicate nature of many of the works, tours are limited to 15 people.
On Thursday, November 19th at 6:00pm visitors are invited to the University Art Museum for a private, after-hours gallery walkthrough with Professor Bruce Tiffney, Dean of the College of Creative Studies and Professor of Paleobiology in the College of Letters and Science. Prof. Tiffney will lead visitors on a tour of the museum’s exhibition World of Wonders: A Renaissance Cabinet, highlighting the various fossils in the exhibition and providing insight into their relationship with the other objects on view. This will be followed by a lively discussion on the identity, origins and myths surrounding a collection of fossils, similar to those in the exhibition, which Prof. Tiffney will bring for visitors to handle. This special hands-on learning event is FREE and limited to 15.
