Mythic Visions: Yarn Paintings of a Huichol Shaman
Sept 27 - Dec 3, 2006
Through the visionary artwork of one of Mexico's great indigenous shaman-artist, Mythic Visions explores the rich cultural heritage of the Huichol Indians of northwestern Mexico. Featured in the exhibition are 31 brilliant yarn paintings by José Benítez Sánchez, a leading Huichol artist who is also a practicing shaman. His fame rests on his creative ability to translate fleeting visions triggered by the sacred peyote cactus into a two-dimensional medium.
