Chen Zhen's brief residency in Santa Barbara will initiate work on a new site-specific project to be presented at the University Art Museum, Thayer Project gallery, in the Winter of 2001. His presentation will include slides and video surveying his installation work since 1990. An émigré from communist China, Chen Zhen continually reinvents the forms of his art, making music with assemblages of household implements--both Chinese and western--and suggesting ways that these instruments can effect healing.
