Visiting the Museum


We welcome you to all of the exhibitions, events, and special programming presented by the University Art Museum.  To plan your visit, please see our regional and campus quadrant maps, which will show you how to get to UCSB, and where on campus the Museum and nearby parking are located.  Allow a comfortable 20 minutes from Santa Barbara for your journey to campus, parking, and walking to the museum.

Directions

 Heading north from Santa Barbara on 101, exit to Highway 217, which leads to the airport and UC Santa Barbara.  Once on 217, get in the left lane and follow it to the East Gate campus entrance.  Bear right at the entrance, and turn right onto Mesa Avenue.  At the third traffic light, turn left onto Ocean Road, and follow it through two more traffic lights.  Turn left into parking structure #22

 Heading south toward Santa Barbara on 101, exit in Goleta at Fairview Avenue.  Turn right onto Fairview Avenue.  At the next traffic light, turn left on Hollister Avenue. Travel several blocks, turn right onto Highway 217, and follow the directions given above.

The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District also provides frequent and reliable bus transportation to and from the UCSB campus. To visit the Santa Barbara MTD web site, select the following link: Santa Barbara-MTD.

Parking

Visitors to the UCSB campus may park only in designated “C” lots, or in 40-minute-maximum metered spots.  The “C” visitor parking lot closest to the Museum is parking structure #22.  Parking Structure #22 is also close to the Humanities & Social Sciences Building (HSSB), the University Center, and the Isla Vista Theater, where the Museum frequently holds symposia, presentations, and screenings.

Admission to the University Art Museum is always free.  There is a parking fee on campus at all times.  Each lot is equipped with Pay Stations to purchase a parking pass, and will accepts credit/debit cards, $1 and $5 bills, but do not give change. 

Current permit rates:

$3.00 - weekdays after 5:00 p.m.

$3.00 - all day (Saturday or Sunday only)

(Metered parking is 25 cents for 5 minutes, with a 40-minute maximum.  Meters accept quarters only.)

 Visitors with disability placards should park in Lot 3 on the east side of the University Center, which offers unobstructed access to the Museum.  To get to Lot 3, turn left after entering the East Gate entrance onto Lagoon Road.  At the stop sign, turn right onto Ucen Road.  Follow Ucen Road to Lot 3 on your right. .  Occasionally Lot 3 is reserved for after-5:00 p.m. events at the museum.  If so, this will be noted with the published event information.

 Lot 3 offers many metered parking spots for any visits of 40 minutes or less.

The UCSB information kiosk, where printed campus maps are available, is located at the Mesa Parking Structure/Lot 16.  If you would like to stop and acquire a map or to ask for any assistance, find this kiosk by turning left at the first traffic light you encounter on Ocean Road.

Walking

From parking structure # 22, follow the pathway towards Storke Tower and  the Arts Building.  Turn right before Storke Tower and the Museum will be on the right hand side with bright green doors

 From Lot 3, walk past the University Center on your left, and the Music Building and Storke Tower and Plaza on your right, to the bright green doors of the Museum.

 Museum hours are Wednesdays through Sundays, 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.  The Museum is closed Mondays, Tuesdays, major holidays, and occasionally for exhibition installation; these closures will be noted on the Museum Hours webpage.
