An Everyday Modern: L.A. Designs by Sam Reisbord, 1947-1960 An Everyday Modern: L.A. Designs by Sam Reisbord, 1947-1960 Celebrating the recent bequest of the design archives of the Los Angeles-based architect Sam Reisbord (1904-1985) to the University Art Museum, this exhibition showcases a selection of his low scale commercial and residential designs including apartments, hotels, and motels that helped to transform the face of everyday life in Los Angeles following World War II. Historic drawings and period photographs present Reisbord's disciplined yet playful contemporary designs including the nationally acclaimed Beverly-Carlton Hotel (1947-48), created in collaboration with the noted graphic and architectural designer, Alvin Lustig. To situate Reisbord's work within Southern California postwar design, the exhibition will highlight a selection of historic drawings and photographs-also from the Museum's Architecture and Design Collection-of similar buildings by noted contemporaries including Thornton M. Abell, Gregory Ain, and Whitney R. Smith. Museum Hours:
