The fruits of rural labor were also romanticized and documented. Stevan Dohanos' State Fair, made almost a decade after the worst of the Great Depression, records all the signs of natural abundance safely harvested. A boy displays a prize steer for his father against a backdrop of a carpenter-gothic shed crowned with the flag, a steeple, and a crowd of sober farmers; in the foreground, all that remains of a prize-winning chicken is some feathers, an egg and the ribbons.
