The subway, in scenes of "strap hangers'" symbolized the transportation which made the modern city. Douglas Gorsline's Express Stop focuses on the momentary human encounters the city makes possible. In this instance, a man reads over the shoulder of a girl holding a newspaper, both waiting for the express train. Behind them, two women chat.
