Here we see a scene of brutal domestic violence between an African American couple who look as if they have been captured and are being tended like wounded beasts, surrounded as they are by the menacing figures of white authority. The oddness of this and other images in the series [link to blurb about Children's clinic] suggests that Riggs is recording what he saw -- and that he deliberately seeks to unsettle us.
